A Custom Backyard Getaway Built for Your Atlanta Property

A backyard getaway is a fully finished structure in your own backyard, built as your own She Shed, Man Cave, art studio, or workout space, not a converted storage shed. It has real insulation, real flooring, and a design shaped around exactly how you plan to use it.

Whether you want a quiet place to unwind, a room for guests, or a space to create, we design and build it around your life instead of a standard floor plan. Schedule a free consultation and let's talk about what fits your property.

Why Choose a Backyard Getaway

Many backyard getaways skip the permitting hurdles a full ADU requires. Without a kitchen or bathroom, a lot of Atlanta-area jurisdictions, including Fulton, DeKalb, and Gwinnett counties, treat them as an accessory structure rather than a dwelling unit, which usually means a simpler, faster approval process. We confirm exactly what your county requires before we design anything.

That makes a backyard getaway one of the fastest ways to add real, usable space to your property, without the cost or timeline of a full addition.

A Tiny Home for Your Backyard, Not a Template

A backyard getaway is a genuine tiny home for your backyard: fully custom, not picked from a catalog.

Tailored Design

Each unit is fully customizable, allowing you to create a space that fits your unique style and needs.

Multi-Purpose Functionality

From guest accommodations to entertainment rooms or workout spaces, these ADUs are adaptable for a variety of uses.

Add Value to Your Home

A permanent, well-built backyard getaway adds usable space and can add resale value that a prefab kit can’t match.

Backyard GetaWay: What to Expect When You Build

Every backyard getaway project follows the same five stages. Here’s how each one works for a she shed, studio, or personal retreat.

01.

Consultation

We talk through how you want to use the space: a hobby room, workout space, studio, or just somewhere quiet to unwind. That shapes decisions like size, lighting, and whether you need running water.

02.

Design

Your layout takes shape around what inspires you, not a standard floor plan. Since this isn’t a full living unit, the design can be more playful and personal than our other structure types.

03.

Permitting

Many backyard getaways don’t require the same permitting as a full dwelling unit, especially without a kitchen or bathroom. We confirm what your county requires and handle the process for you.

04.

Construction

Because the scope is usually smaller and simpler, construction tends to move quickly. Most of the work goes into finishes and details that make the space feel like yours.

05.

Final Walkthrough

We walk through your finished space together. We check that every detail matches what you pictured, from lighting to finishes. Since this space is meant to be personal, we make sure it feels like yours the moment you step inside. Any final touch-ups happen before we hand over the keys.

Backyard GetaWay FAQs

Explore answers to frequently asked questions about the ADU process, design options, and project timelines to help you make informed decisions.

A She Shed or Man Cave is a fully finished backyard retreat, not a storage shed. Think insulation, real flooring, and a design built around you: whether that’s relaxing, entertaining, or hobbies. A shed holds tools. A custom-built Backyard Getaway holds your downtime. Schedule a free consultation and we’ll help you design one around your lifestyle.

It’s close. A backyard getaway is a tiny home for your backyard built for a single purpose, like a studio, gym, or retreat, rather than full-time living. It won’t have a kitchen or bathroom the way a tiny home you’d live in does, which is part of why it’s usually simpler to permit. If you’re picturing a space someone could actually live in, take a look at our other ADU services instead.

Yes. Many of our clients add electrical for lighting and outlets, and some go further with a mini-split for heating and cooling or even a small bathroom. We handle the permitting and utility connections so your backyard getaway works exactly how you want it, year-round. Tell us your must-haves during a free consultation and we’ll design around them.

A prefab kit is usually cheaper upfront, but comes with limitations. It’s not built to last, and won’t add property value the way a permanent Backyard Getaway will. Pre-fabs come with generic sizing, limited materials, and sometimes extra costs. When you build custom, you get a space made for you, for the long-haul. That’s why custom She Sheds or Man Caves are often worth the investment.
